Banuja Alex,24 years old, lives in Uduvil with her mother & two sisters. She finished her school studies in Uduvil Girls College one of Jaffna’s leading private schools. We all know the fact, “Private Better than Public School”. Seventy two percent of parents agreed to send their kids to private school, Alex is one of them, even though she doesn’t have sufficient money. Because they believe private schools have greatly improved students ‘performance and brighter experience and achievements in their harder lessons. From this we clearly understand, her father satisfaction to their children education. ‘Dream of every parent to make their children to winners’. He worked hard Until his last breath for it. Unfortunately, her father was passed away before she entered her higher study life. So initially her family was struggling.
“My father didn’t tell me how to live: he lived and let me watch him do it “.
She was the first child of her family & responsibility to take-care of her family & siblings’ education. On that poor situation, she drops her higher studies & seeking a job to change the life of her family, & finally got the work in Pre -School. Not only teaching, she got the Knowledge, like air in her free time from various resources. She was overcoming her challenges in her teenage, & successfully completed NVQ Level 4 at the age of Twenty.
“I realized that the most important thing in life is application of mind. Knowledge can be borrowed but where & how to apply it”.
When she was faced the most difficult period of her life, an opportunity knocks her door through the training session at Uttumpirai Hindu College & she utilized that chance favorable to her. she was participated in that workshop & learned crafting skills, Jewelry design making, paper crafts, decorative objects made completely by hand & by using only simple tools. Days in the digital life of teenagers. I found myself at how well managed the huge influx of digital devices to fill my dreams.
“There are many messages, & many messengers all around us, but are we listening? –No time with unnecessary works.”
She was impressed on the sector of craft and applies to a wide range of creative in her home.A days later she catches more thinks about that micro technique, designs, ultimate guide & ideas. She proofed that; the Money is not measure a person skill. Because she Boost her talent & skills through you-tube channels & internet by self-Learning. She said, “Those two years really changed my perspective on many many things in life”. She was the witness to the proverb of “Practice makes a man perfect”. Her practice & confidence about herself is the root of her growth. She creating new items such as greeting cards, Jewelry box, pencil holder & etc.
“When the government is not releasing funds, how will poverty be eliminated?”
She doesn’t imagine a moment before, her hobby was given hand to killed their poor. poverty is only her motivator to become an Entrepreneur of her small handicraft business. When I spoke with her, she said, ‘skills not hidden by the poverty’, so she trained the people who are interested on this field & give work opportunity to them. She is the example her village youngsters. If father with her, he will be backbone to her. But she decides “I will not recall the tears in my mother’s eyes. I don’t think my mind was really shaped, that sharping started happening gradually. We learned from her that, age is not a boundary for the achievements.
